The Last Masoxi

 







THE LAST MASOXI by the Angolan author, Beni Dya Mbaxi ( a literary pseudonym of Bernado Afonso) is the story of Masoxi, a woman who was the victim of sexual abuse, mistreatment and false imprisonment during her childhood.
According to the author,  "Masoxi, as a child, lived with her mother, a drug addict, and her stepfather. It was an emotionally unstable home, which is why she felt it was her responsibility to take care of her mother, even though she was so young", 
Originally written in Portuguese, THE LAST MASOXI won the South African based award "Global Prize of African Writers 2021".
In addition, the author who is the first Angolan young writer to win the award was part of a recent campaign by young activists against Gender abuse in Botswana.
