The House Without Windows

A HOUSE WITHOUT WINDOWS written in French by Marc Ellison, translated into English by Nanette McGuinness and illustrated by Didier Kassaï  is a graphic documentary about the street children of Bangui in the Central African Republic (CAR)
In the CAR, children grow up in a state of insecurity, poverty, and malnutrition. The land has become what many call "a house without windows."
Told in a style that mixes photos and illustrations,  this comic takes readers into the heart of this "forgotten crisis."
Central African artist Didier Kassai and British photojournalist Marc Ellison guide readers through the harsh stories of Bangui’s children—slaving in diamond minds, housed in refugee camps—and showcase their inspirational courage in the face of unimaginable poverty.
Illustrator, watercolourist and caricaturist, Didier Kassaï was born in 1974 in Sibut in the Central African Republic.
Self-taught, he began his career as a cartoonist for the Central African daily newspaper Le Perroquet in 1997.
In 2000, Didier Kassaï took part in the collective album A l'ombre du baobab, which gave rise to an exhibition at the Angoulême International Comics Festival in 2001. He then collaborated on the books Africa Comics (Italy) and Shege (Cameroon).
